The Job Nobody Talks About: Getting Asked Back
Plenty of concreters can pour one good slab. The harder thing to earn is the second call — and then the third. Over the past few years, Nick has had Leigh Whyte Concreting back for three separate jobs at his place in Strathdale: a shed slab and shed build, the concrete for his driveway and carport, and most recently a basketball court slab in the backyard.
Each job was a different beast. What stayed the same was the way they were run — one bloke who already knew the property, the earthworks and the concrete handled as one job, and a finish that held up. Here’s how the three came together.

The Driveway And Carport
Next time round, it was the concrete for the driveway and the carport. Driveways live or die on their falls: water has to run off the surface and away from the house, not pool against an edge or sit in a low spot.
Because we set those falls during the site cut, the earthworks and the pour were one job — not a hand-off between an earthworks contractor and a concreter, with a gap in the middle for a problem to fall into. There’s more on our driveways and footpaths page.
Job 03 — The Basketball Court Slab
The most recent job was the basketball court slab out the back — and it was the one with a catch. The in-ground basketball ring had specific installation requirements that had to be built into the slab itself, not bolted on afterwards.
So Leigh chased down the manufacturer’s specifications, worked out the correct installation method, and set the ring’s footing into the right spot at the right depth before a drop of concrete went down. Pour the base right and set that footing true, and the whole court sits solid for years. The modular sport-court surface went down over the top once the slab had cured.

Three Different Jobs, One Reason To Come Back
Repeat work doesn’t happen by accident. Nick put it plainly in his own words below — but from our side, it comes down to four things that don’t change from one job to the next.

Over the past few years Leigh Whyte and his team have completed three separate projects for us — a shed slab and shed build, the concreting for our driveway and carport, and most recently a slab for a basketball half-court. Each one was completed to a high standard, and Leigh has always been easy to work with. He takes the time to understand what you're trying to achieve, offers practical suggestions, and works through any challenges to get the best outcome.

Do you pour a basketball court slab and other one-off jobs?
Yes. Alongside shed slabs and driveways, we pour specialty slabs like a backyard court pad — including any in-ground fittings that need setting to spec before the concrete goes down.
Will you set an in-ground basketball ring into the slab?
Yes. The ring’s footing is placed to the manufacturer’s specification, in the right spot and at the right depth, and poured in as part of the slab rather than added afterwards.
Do you do the site preparation and earthworks as well as the concreting?
Yes. We own our own bobcat, excavator and tipper, so the site cut, levels, falls, footings and the pour are one job with one point of contact — no coordinating between an earthworks contractor and a concreter.

Absolutely. A fair bit of our work is repeat custom, like the three jobs on this property. Ringing the same bloke means we already know your block and how you like things done.
