Leigh Whyte has spent around 23 years in the concreting trade. He started out young, jumped in doing house slabs with a mate at the local footy club, then spent 11 years at his father-in-law’s business, Precision Formwork — commercial work, multi-storey pours and site cuts. That’s where you learn what makes a slab last, and what makes one crack.
The commercial side was heavy going on the body, so Leigh stepped out on his own and invested in his own gear — a Bobcat, an excavator and a tipper truck. For the last 12-odd years he’s run Leigh Whyte Concreting across Bendigo and Central Victoria, specialising in shed slabs, driveways, exposed aggregate and full site preparation.
Owning the machines is the whole point. It means the earthworks and the concrete are one job — one team, one point of contact — so you’re never stuck refereeing between an earthworks bloke and a concreter. From bare dirt to the final finish, it’s all on Leigh.
